Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782-1852) founded the first Kindergarten system. He is also famous for creating the Fröbel Blocks and Puzzles (known as Fröbel Gifts). Before Fröbel, children under the age of seven were generally deemed to be incapable of learning intellectual or emotional skills. Fröbel stands out among his predecessors and peers for replacing rote learning with object lessons and designed child-centered activities. Today, Fröbel’s legacy lives on in kindergartens all over the world, where children can have guided growth and their first introduction to literacy.
